My name is Arla Hoving. I have been teaching second grade at Pine Trails Elementary School for eight years. I have also taught fourth grade and Home Start. I received my Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University. I am also continuing to take classes to enhance my teaching skills. |
I enjoy teaching second grade at Pine Trails. Our staff works together as a team to ensure that we are meeting the academic needs of the second graders by placing them in reading groups based on their individual needs. I also try to integrate a variety of teaching techniques in my instruction to incorporate the different learning styles of the learners. I believe that a successful year in second grade requires a partnership between the parent and the teacher.
Unity
I dreamed I stood in a studio
And watched two sculptors there.
The clay they used was a young child’s mind. And they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher; the tools he used
Were books and music and art.
One a parent with a guiding hand,
And a gentle and loving heart.
Day after day the teacher toiled,
With touch that was deft and sure,
While the parent labored by his side,
And polished and smoothed it o're.
And when at last their task was done,
They were proud of what they had wrought.
For the things they had molded into the child Could neither be sold nor bought.
And each agreed he would have failed
If he had worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school,
And behind the teacher the home.Author unknown
