Mrs. Char Lemons has been the Title One Reading Specialist at North Ward Elementary for the past 19 years. She currently serves as the Reading Specialist for Dawson Elementary and North Ward. She holds both BA and MA degrees in Elementary Education and Elementary Reading from Western Michigan University. She serves as Student Council Advisor, MiBLSi Team Member, Literacy Leader and Safety Patrol Advisor. Prior to coming to Allegan, she taught for ten years as a second, third and fourth grade teacher at St. Margaret Parochial School in Otsego. Mrs. Lemons lives in Portage, is married to Rick and has two sons- Brandon and Jeremy.

ABOUT THE TITLE ONE PROGRAM :
Title One is a support program at North Ward that provides assistance for students experiencing difficulty in reading and related skills as well as working with beginning readers. The focus has been with our K-2 population with an emphasis on helping to assure that confident and secure readers are in place by the end of these early grades. The Title One teacher works as a team with the instuctional aides-Mrs. Farrer, Mrs. Reich and Mrs. Melms in groups of first through fifth graders as well as kindergarteners. The new K-5 reading Interventions currently being implemented include: Road to the Code, Read Well, Corrective Reading, Read Naturally, Funnix and Rewards.
