Mrs.Swartzlander - 1st Grade
| My name is Anne Swartzlander. This is
my 33rd year teaching at Dawson. I taught Resource Room for 11 years
before changing to First Grade. I graduated from Western Michigan
University with a Bachelor's Degree is Special Education of the Mentally
Impaired. I also have a Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities. I
enjoy teaching 1st graders because the children are so eager to learn.
Each day is exciting through the eyes of a first grader. It is also fun
to see the changes that they go through, as they become reader, writers
and thinkers. |
I have two children. My son is a Sophpomore at Michigan State, and my daughter is a graduate of Michigan State. I live on Miner Lake with my husband and children. We enjoy boating and swimming in the summer and cross-country skiing and ice skating in the winter.
I have seen many positive changes at Dawson in the last 32 years. Lower class sizes in grades K, 1, and 2 is wonderful. In first grade we have worked out a 45 minutes block every day where a first grade teacher, a reading specialist and two Instructional Assistants work in small groups of five or less children to each adult. We work on specific reading skills from our reading curriculum and are able to meet the children's needs very well this way.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to visit the classroom.
