Mrs. Paulsen - 2nd Grade

My name is Kathy Paulsen and I am one of the two first grade teachers at Dawson Elementary.  This is my tenth year with Allegan Public Schools and at Dawson.  I taught hearing impaired students the first two years and this is my eighth year as a first grade teacher.

I grew up in Ohio and received my undergraduate degree from Kent State University.  I have taken graduate level classes at Michigan State University.

I am excited to be one of Dawson's representatives participating in the Allegan County Literacy Initiative.  Teachers from schools throughout the county are meeting to increase our knowledge of how children best learn reading and writing and to learn how to help them be the best readers and writers they can be.

First grade is a year of phenomenal growth for the students.  Progress in reading, writing, and mathematics is exciting to observe.  Children this age are curious, inquisitive, and genereally love to be at school.  I feel very fortunate to share this first grade year with the unique and amazing students in Room 229.
