After first studying the history and development of “technology”, the students will, with the use of computers, investigate a variety (12) of different areas in: publishing, design (CAD), machining (CNC), and manufacturing (CAM). The course will include radio production, transportation, power and energy, and engineering. The basics of robotics, fluid power, and electronics are also included. This is a student-directed class where the student will use problem-solving, the techniques of proto-typing, and cooperative effort to achieve a successful conclusion to the “module” task(s). The activities will all be achieved through the use of small two (2) person groups, with a change of partner along with a change of “module” every 5 days.
World of Technology Prerequisite: None Grade(s): 10-12 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1 Career core elective for: Arts and Communication (T,P) Business Management, Marketing and Technology (T) Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology (T,P) Health Sciences (T) Human Services (T,P) Natural Resources and Agriscience (T,P) The world of technology is a course designed to further study the five areas of technology with an emphasis of hands-on tasks, problem solving, and project work. The course will emphasize safe work habits, cooperative work, and a skill based use of various manufacturing techniques. This will be through the use of various tools and machines; some low tech and some computerized. Various basic skills will be taught, such as: precision measurements, basic shop math, various methods of forming, removal, bonding and production will be included. Several opportunities for single and group problem solving work will be provided. In order to repeat the World of Technology class, a student must have a signed slip from the teacher to be readmitted to take the class again for credit. |
