Family Living Prerequisite: None Grade(s): 11-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Students will study the impact families have on the way we grow, develop and function as individuals. Topics will include: family structure, changes of the life cycle, relationships, roles, family events and family law. Family living students will learn about the rights and responsibilities of living in a family and society. |

Food Science Prerequisite: None Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Health Sciences (T,P) Human Services (T,P) Food Science assists students in understanding how their environment, food availability, food technology, time, behavior and personality affect their diet and food choices. Food preparation will reflect the United States Dietary Guidelines. Students will also complete the scientific evaluation of food.
Advanced Food SciencePrerequisite: Food Science (B+ or Better) Grade(s): 10-12 (1st trimester only) Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career Core Elective for: Health Sciences (T,P) Human Services (T,P) Advanced Food Science is a one-trimester course that builds on the knowledge and skills learned in Food Science. Students will make a variety of healthful food decisions, appreciate food diversity, analyze the impact of science and technology on foods and nutrition, and identify career possibilities in food and nutrition.
Parenthood/Child Development Prerequisite: None Grade(s): 11-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Health Sciences (T,P) Human Services (T,P) Parenthood/Child Development is the study of human growth and development. It examines personal readiness to become a parent and important issues related to raising healthy children and building positive parent-child relationships. The general theme is that parenting skills can be learned through positive experiences with children. Students will begin to recognize the cognitive, emotional, social and physical needs of young children.
Personal Living Prerequisite: None Grade(s): 10-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Personal Living concentrates on social and personal issues. The student identifies the relationship between present and future career plans, personal priorities and interpersonal interactions. The student practices management and resource skills in the areas of communication, employability and social contributions. A personal finance simulation allows students to learn skills needed for independent living. |
