English I Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Credit: 1 Grade(s): 9 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1
This course is designed for special education students needing an English credit who read between a 3rd and 7th grade level. Students are exposed to a variety of experiences in writing, reading, speaking, and listening. They will read novels, short stories, biographies, and newspapers. They will become familiar with writing sentences, paragraphs and essays. |

English II Prerequisite: Based on IEPT, English I Grade(s): 10 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1 This course is for special education students who need to increase their sentence and paragraph writing skills. It includes literary forms such as novels, poetry, fables, and myths. Students will also experience writing narrative, persuasive, and expository compositions.
English III Prerequisite: Based on IEPT, English I and II Grade(s): 11 or 12 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1 This course is recommended for students who have difficulty with reading and/or written language, communicating their needs, resolving conflicts, and identifying future goals. The class will focus on how to advocate effectively in writing or verbally. This course will help students understand their specific disability, explore learning styles, and become familiar with personal strengths and weaknesses.
Economics Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 11 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ This course offers special education students an opportunity to explore the same concepts as in regular education, while studying at a pace consistent with their abilities. Students will leave this course with a better understanding of the American economic system.
Government Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ The content of this course centers on the citizen’s role in the American Democracy. Students will also learn the responsibilities of citizens, and the role of Federal, State, and Local governments. This course offers special education students an opportunity to explore the same concepts as in general education, while studying at a pace consistent with their abilities.
Math I Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 9 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1 This course is designed for special education students needing additional reinforcement of math skills in preparation for placement in math II or general education Integrated math. Students will be evaluated for skill proficiency and to determine which skills still need to be developed. Instruction will be designed to the learning styles of the students with the ultimate goal of placement in a regular education math class.
Pre-Algebra Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 9-10 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1 This course is designed for special education students needing additional reinforcement of math skills in preparation for placement in Basic Algebra. Students will be evaluated for skill proficiency and to determine which skills still need to be developed. Instruction will be designed to accommodate the learning styles of the students with the ultimate goal of placement in a Regular Education math class.
Science Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1 This course is designed for special education students needing science credits who read between a 3rd and 7th grade level. During this two-year course students will study physical science, earth science, life science and anatomy.
Self-Contained Moderately Cognitively Impaired Classroom Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 9 -12 Trimesters: As needed Credit: ½ to 1 ½ This program is an objective based course of study that is designed for students with mental impairments. This program uses the PER curriculum and covers the following seven areas of instruction: Vocational, Social Competency, Personal and Family Living, Community Living, Communication, Academics, and Driver Education. This program leads to a Certificate of Attendance as determined by the IEPT.
Transitions Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 11-12 Trimesters: 2 Credit: 1 This course is designed for special education students needing a social studies credit who may struggle with a traditional social studies class at the 11th through 12th grade level. This course is divided into three areas of study: Personal Management, Career Management, and Life Management. Throughout the year, students will become familiar with problem-solving and decision-making skills that will add confidence and a sense of responsibility. This class will help students to build solid relationships as well as provide a foundation for students to make realistic decisions about careers in the marketplace.
Study Skills Prerequisite: Based on IEPT Grade(s): 9 -12 Trimesters: 1 (Repeatable) Credit: ½ This course is designed as a study hall for special education students who are currently enrolled in one or more academic regular education classes that require homework. Students will learn the importance of organization through the process of keeping and using their academic planner provided by the school. Students will also have the opportunity to use their study skills teacher as a resource for help with regular education homework. |
