Health Prerequisite: None Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Health Services (T) Human Services (T) Through health education, students learn to obtain, interpret, and apply health information and services in ways that protect and promote personal, family, and community health. All students will show competence in following eight health education content standards: Core concepts, access information, health behaviors, influences, goal setting, decision making, social skills and advocacy.
Physical Wellness Prerequisite: None Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Physical Wellness is a participation-based class designed for all students. Activities will take place inside, outside and in the pool. Students will also be challenged in Cardio-Endurance work such as Agility Exercises, Circuit Training and Timed Runs. Overall fitness is the goal.
Aquatics Prerequisite: General P.E./ Physical Wellness and Health Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Arts and Communication (T,P) Health Sciences (T,P) Human Services (T,P) This is a basic aquatic class that focuses on stroke perfection, endurance conditioning, personal water safety, boater safety, basic diving, and mask and snorkel swimming. This course will also provide first aide, CPR, and rescue skills training.
Team Activities Prerequisite: General Physical Education/Physical Wellness & Health Grade(s): 10-12 Trimesters: 1 (repeatable) Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Arts and Communication (T,P) Health Sciences (T,P) Human Services (T,P) Team Activities is an advanced participation class designed for students who like hard work and strenuous activity. Students will be challenged physically in a variety of team settings and competition. Team strategies, knowledge of sport rules and overall safety in athletics will be stressed. Some activities will take place in the pool. Overall fitness is the goal.
Strength and Conditioning Prerequisite: General PE/Physical Wellness and Health Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 1 (repeatable) Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Arts and Communication (T,P) Health Sciences (T,P) Human Services (T,P) Strength & Conditioning is an advanced class designed for highly motivated individuals who like to work hard. Students will be challenged physically using the Bigger-Faster-Stronger program. Students will focus on the major skeletal muscles and the techniques that develop those muscles. Students will also be exposed to Plyometrics, Agility Work, Timed Runs and other cardio-endurance training techniques. Overall fitness and knowledge of proper training is the goal.
Advanced Sports Training I Prerequisite: Successful Completion of General PE/Physical Wellness and Health Grade(s): 10-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Arts and Communication (T,P) Health Science (P) Human Services (T,P) This class is designed to help students develop their skills and understanding of specific sports. Students will study, drill and train for Track, Wrestling, Volleyball, Boy’s Basketball and Competitive Cheer. Students will practice skills, techniques and strategies enabling them to become more proficient at these sports.
Advanced Sports Training II Prerequisite: Successful Completion General Physical/Physical Wellness and Health Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Arts and Communication (T,P) Health Science (P) Human Services (T,P) This class is designed to help students develop their skills and understanding of specific sports. Students will study, drill and train Baseball, Softball, and girl’s Soccer. Students will practice skills, techniques and strategies, enabling them to become more proficient at these sports.
Advanced Sports Training III Prerequisite: Successful Completion of General PE/ Physical Wellness and Health Grade(s): 9-12 Trimesters: 1 Credit: ½ Career core elective for: Arts and Communication (T,P) Health Science (P) Human Services (T,P) This class is designed to help students develop their skills and understanding of specific sports. Students will study, drill and train for Football, Girl’s Basketball, Cross country, golf, Boys Soccer, Boys & Girls Tennis. Students will practice skills, techniques and strategies enabling them to become more proficient at these sports. |
